- Use washers: Always pair the eyelet with its matching washer. The washer spreads the pressure over a larger surface, preventing the eyelet from being pulled out.
- Right tool: For professional awnings, use a press or eyelet machine that guarantees uniform riveting. Hand pliers may not be enough for large eyelets.
- Check the tension: After installation, verify that no eyelet shows play or deformation.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using aluminium eyelets outdoors: Aluminium is too soft to withstand the tension of an awning exposed to wind.
- Eyelets too small: An undersized eyelet will deform and eventually be ripped out.
- Not using washers: Without a washer, force concentrates on one point and the fabric tears.
- Excessive spacing: The greater the spacing, the higher the load on each individual eyelet.
